Only a decade earlier nets like these were made using local material like tree bark and cotton. They were often soaked in a liquid brew of romurici root, a cashew or mangrove tree which gave it strength. Today, nylon and plastics are increasingly used for not only nets but also sails, rope and materials to build sailing rafts.
